Clint -
You may want to chat with my co-worker Bart Palmer. He'll be doing his dissertation work on web analytics - specifically within education rather than business. Email me if you want his email address. He and Mimi presented at the NSF annual meeting as well:

Recker, M. & Palmer, B. (2007, November). Beyond Webmetrics. Paper presented at the National Science Foundation National STEM Digital Library Annual Meeting, Washington, D.C.

Thanks Brooke for the contact. I just published a section of a chapter on using web analytics in educational evaluation, and I'm presenting a seminar this Wednesday on the use of web analytics in online education too. I have now the names of about 3 other people working in this area too (one from Australia and 2 from Hungary) - so (talking about networks) it might be good to connect them with each other. Thanks.

These classes of yours sound so much fun -- I wish I was there! I must update you on Meurig's idea for the use of EM in the next generation of wikis and blogs. We are imagining wiki pages becoming less like static pages of text/pictures and more like interactive artefacts that are built up collaboratively. Immediately this brings BrainHoney to mind and I think there are other connections to be made too. We shall have to Skype again soon -- just now I am packing my bags for Joensuu!

I'm intrigued by the combination of empirical modeling principles and the next generation of wikis/blogs. It will be fun to hear more of the ideas behind it. In the mean time - enjoy that long drive across Europe. Wish I could join you.

Clint, I was wondering if you are able to run google analytics on sites that are hosted locally. For example, I'm using Moodle to administer my course, and I'd love to set up google analytics, but it isn't working for me. Do I have to do that on the server? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve,
You should be able to get it working with your Moodle site. I'd need to look at your code to see why it is not working.
I'll send you an email and perhaps you can tell me more about what you tried to do and why it is not working.
Thanks.
